Breaking News!! Madeleine McCann’s Mother!!

If you watch our show — and you better!!! — you know that we have been closely following the Madeleine McCann story. We have also interviewed the parents together (both doctors) and the father alone when he was in the United States. (Perhaps we will re-air part or all of those interviews tonight….) Here is the breaking news: (and post what you think about this news)

Report: Portuguese Police Name Madeleine McCann’s Mom a Suspect

VIANA DO CASTELO, Portugal —

The mother of Madeleine McCann, whose disappearance sparked a global search, was formally named as a suspect by Portuguese police Friday, Britain’s Press Association news agency reported.
The news agency quoted an unnamed family friend as saying Kate McCann had been declared a suspect under Portuguese law. Earlier, family friend and former spokesman Clarence Mitchell told The Associated Press that police had told Kate McCann and her husband Gerry that they would both be named as suspects.

Kate McCann arrived at a police station in Portugal for a second day of questioning Friday.

Family spokesman David Hughes told The Associated Press she had been told she would be formally named as a suspect.

“They told her last night that it would happen today. That’s definite,” he said.

Madeleine’s father, Gerry McCann, also was expected to meet with police later in the afternoon and a friend of the family, Clarence Mitchell, told the AP that he too would be named as a formal suspect.

The couple has maintained their innocence throughout.

Hughes, the family spokesman, said the police have 22 questions that they want to ask Kate McCann, which require her to be made a formal suspect. Under Portuguese law, the legal move grants certain protections to the suspect, but allows police more latitude in questioning.

Kate McCann and her husband, Gerry, have spearheaded an intense media campaign since Madeleine went missing from a holiday apartment in the Algarve region where she was sleeping with her 2-year-old twin siblings.

The parents were having dinner in the hotel’s pool-side restaurant with friends and said they checked on their children at regular intervals.

The McCanns toured Europe with photos and stuffed animals of Madeleine, even meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. Celebrities such as J.K. Rowling and David Beckham made public appeals that helped the family raise more than $2 million.

The intense publicity has helped lead to numerous reported sightings of the girl, from as far away as northern Europe and Morocco.

Click here for more from the Times of London.

The decision to re-interview the McCanns has disrupted the couple’s plans to return to England with their two-year-old twins, Sean and Amelie.

The interviews come after Portugal’s Polícia Judiciária received a new batch of results from tests conducted on samples taken from the McCanns’ holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

Analysis of these samples, which included flecks of blood found on Madeleine’s bedroom wall by British sniffer dogs, has raised the prospect that the investigation is entering a new phase.

Experts at the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham have spent the past month analyzing the samples, and have attempted to identify the child’s DNA as well as establish whether anyone else was in the room on the night she went missing.

A police source said that the British laboratory had regularly relayed information to the Portuguese detectives, but speculation is growing that the latest results, which have not been made public, may lead to arrests.

SKY News investigative reporter Martin Brunt said tests have also been carried out on a car the McCanns hired five weeks after Madeleine’s disappearance.

“They weren’t using it at the time she went missing,” he told SKY News.

Brunt added that McCann is “horrified to be under suspicion”.

“She is shocked and surprised in several ways. First of all that such an accusation could be made against her. And obviously she is concerned that such a line of investigation can become a distraction from further attempts to find Madeleine,” said Brunt.

Gerry’s brother John McCann said the prospect of Kate becoming a suspect was “unbelievable”.

“We just want to see exactly what the Portuguese police are saying,” he said.

“We cannot believe the line that they are going down - we just find it unbelievable.”

DNA found in the Renault Scenic rented by Madeleine’s parent’s 25 days after her disappearance is still being analysed, but the police source says initial forensic results show fluids were present that would only have been emitted after death.

He said: “They are being told the fluids come from a DEAD BODY. These are bodily fluids that could ONLY come from a corpse.”

The source also insisted that forensic evidence was found under a carpet in the vehicle, implying a body had been hidden.

Actually, I’m 90% certain that it was the Parents. If you analyse all the facts and put them together, they’re a mixture of “coincidence” and obviousness.

I truly hope I may be wrong but in my opinion her parents are guilty for her death. Why did they leave the children unattended? Where they truly having dinner? And how can we be so sure that they didn´t hurt the girl when they checked on her. I don´t think someone kidnapp her, the two other boys where left in the room…what does that little girl has that her brothers dont? Otherwise why was she taken away?
Her parents are suspicious for leaving them unattended so if I would be the police I would start checking on them…that neighbor declared suspicious by the police in my opinion is not…they are just trying to take the attention away from the parents. Just remember the case of that little girl named bennet or something like that..she was killed in her own home and the police never found out who did it and the parents kept on saying they were innocent…..
May God take care of little madeleine wherever she is and may her soul be taken to heaven if she is dead.

Update:
it is now being repoted that Toxicological test done on the bodily fluids, recovered from the car boot. show that Madeleine had consumed a “significant” quantity of sleeping tablets and may have overdosed, the French newspaper France Soir reported, citing unnamed sources in Portugal.

is it possible to hide a dead body for 25 days without the smell from the decomposing body noticeable to search parties? probably the person that kille maddy used the car then and the mccanns were unlucky to have hired it 25 days later

Hi Judy

The source of the information I got was from the press who where referring to the dossier of evidence presented to the judge.
They said that the dossier will almost certainly contain 10 key elements.

1 Forensic evidence
2 Toxicology reports
3 Interview transcripts
4 Statements from the McCanns’ friends
5 Statements from other witnesses
6 Phone tap evidence
7 Background reports
8 Surveillance
9 Videos of police ‘cadaver’ dogs
10 Timeline

Some of the evidence from key elements the McCanns have already been question over.

Last month police took samples from the McCanns holiday apartment and their Renault Scenic hire car and was sent to the UK
Forensic science service in Birmingham. Reports alleged that samples included large amounts of Madelein’s hair as well as bodily fluids, recovered from the car boot.
Cadaver dogs are reported to have detect and to of reacted to the “smell of death” inside the McCann’s holiday apartment, on Kate McCann’s clothes and in the hire car which was video taped by police.

Was just reading this morning that the police are now asking for the McCann’s Computer and Kate’s Dairy and Madelein’s toy.
Maybe they should of took the toy before it was washed??

Simon.

Hi Rach
Why do you think there was a baby sitting service available? I tried to find out from the website about the availability of one and there was no info. Where did you get that from and is it really true??
I just assumed that if they really wanted to hire a baby sitter there must be some available and the site where they were staying must have some information for families about child-milding.
Best wishes
Judy

Hi Simon,
I was just wondering where you get the info about the fact that the DNA in the boot of the car was from bodily fluids? Has there been some declaration from the press? Or police? Also are you sure that the sniffer dogs found evidence of a corpse scent on Ket’s clothes and not just in the apartment? Where do you get these facts?

Many thing’s do not add up about this, I am having a real hard time believing the McCann’s story if any of the evidence is to be true and also
I have always had a odd feeling about the way they have behaved since day one.
Whether or not you can imagine yourself leaving your own child alone or harming your own child, it still remains a fact that most homicides involving children
ARE committed by someone related or known to that child.
I have read people ask how could blood of got into a car hired 25 days after Madeleine went missing and why would there be blood if madeleine was accidently
Given an overdose. The fact is the police forensics found an amount of hair from madeleine inside the car that they believe could not have got there from objects
Placed in car, also the DNA material that was found in the boot of the car where the spare wheel is, was NOT from blood and was from BODY FLUIDE, which is
Exactly what u would expect if a body was placed their after 25 days.
Other facts that can’t be ignored are :
Why did they leave the children alone if there was a sitter available?
Why did Kate leave the other children alone again after she
Discovered madeleine was missing ? (I would be thinking the person/s could still be near bye. She could of phoned her husband and said get here right now!).
Why did Kate go back to the restaurant and scream “THEY” have taken her. ?
Why did British sniffer dogs detect the presence of a corpse on the clothes Kate was wearing? (She said she had been in contact with bodies from work some time before going on holiday)
Question: would you wear those same clothes on holiday unwashed … Not me!
Why Have the McCanns told media they came back to the UK for financial reasons and because they want the twins to have as normal life as possible when not long before
That they was saying we are staying to find Madeleine despite being named as suspects.
Why the complete turn around (I’d say to get some expensive legal representation with that money they say they don’t have to be able to stay on and find Madeleine)

Just to get you thinking on the point I made earlier about child homicides here are some disturbing figures real life stuff.

There were 33 homicides committed against children under the age of 12 in 2003, the lowest number in over 25 years. Of these victims, 14 (or 42%) were under one year of age.
Of the 27 solved homicides against children, 23 were killed by a parent: 9 by a father, 4 by a step-father, 10 by a mother and 1 by a step-mother (in one incident, both parents were accused). In addition, 2 children were killed by their day-care provider and 2 by a stranger.

Nothing has been proven for or against them. All I know is that either way they have lost their little girl.

We dont understand in detil how DNA can be passed from place to place, thats why experts get paid so much money!

I say leave them alone until proven guilty!

It has been known before that parants have killed there kids, people have gone on and behaved like them in the past.

Maybe they did and this was just away of diverting attention from them

I’m very interested - how do you know a child-minding service was available? I looked at the website for the apartments and couldn’t find any evidence - I was going to suggest it. Where did you get that info - I think it could be very important - after all these were fairly wealthy parents and could easily afford a baby-sitter. If you are right it hints at even more negligence than anyone has so far suggested.
Not impressed either by parents off jogging along the beach (I know others have already said this). I know I would not have the energy if one of my kids had been ‘kidnapped’. Having said that I suppose everyone reacts differently

Hi Greta….I have read all of these interesting theories regarding the Mccanns.I admitt confused is the appropriate word that i am clinging onto for the present moment. I agree with Rob….This case needs a little more time to further mature. My heart goes out to Mady & pray that she is alive! You know I have a theory that could point in the direction of an ingredient of Munchausen by proxy. To hold Kate MCcann responisble for Mady demise is not far fetch, but very chilling….

This might seam a bit heartless but they got what they deserved why did they take there beutifull kids on holiday to leave them locked up in a hotel room while they went out on the piss! there was a child minding service available why didnt they use it1 why arnt there freinds been quesioned more! did they sedate there daughter so they could have a nite off have they done it before but this time it went wrong! i hope maddy his safe now and that whoever did this to her pays with there life! and rot in jail

I agree with many people on the website - why on earth leave three very young children alone? The parents might as well have been on the other side of the world really, seeing as their children were out of sight. If they so desperately wanted to be without their little children for a while they could have at least organised some sort of intercom system to carry on listening - I don’t know whether a baby monitor would work at that distance. They could have even splashed out and hired a baby sitter. I wonder how many other times they have left their children alone. It really does beggar belief, after all they are intelligent mature parents!
Apart from the fact that the children might be in danger, I would never want my children to have been left alone at that age for the simple reason that they may have become frightened (eg had a nightmare/become sick), and how awful for them to then not have a parent around to console them.
One last thing - how strange to not take your kids for an evening meal with you - it wasn’t really that late and the twins could have always dosed in pushchairs. This is what we have done many a time on holiday.
As for whether the parents were involved in her disappearance I haven’t a clue.

Comment by Clare

Whatever you accuse the parents of, they are guilty no matter what happens.
Neglect or Murder, it all boils down to the same thing.

You cannot deny that these people are COLD………

Leaving the children, supposedly Madeleine was crying for Daddy for over an hour on the night before she went missing. Knowing this they still went out the following night and left them alone.

The lack of real tears in any interview.

The composed way they conducted themselves in the days after, the hair, the make up, the jewellrey.

They were photographed JOGGING only 13 days after the abduction?

Gerrys love of the media, laughing and smiling for many pictures.

Gerry and his infamous blog, talking as though everyone wants to read about him, rarely mentioning madeleine.

Leaving the twins in a creche while conducting their interviews?

Their refusal to admit their MASSIVE mistake of leaving the children.

I thought these two were guilty at first, however I do have a problem with the blood in the hire car and moving the body. But then true life is stranger than fiction.

My personal belief is that if they are guilty, then they approached the media to ensure that the abduction theory was dealt with above anything else. Perhaps they had no idea how big the story would become, they didnt count on Aunty Phil and her internet idea.

Either way Madeleine is probably dead. If that is the case, an accidental overdose is the best we could have hoped for. Poor poor girl, breaks my heart every time I think of it.

Comment by Gemi from UK

I have been reading your blog with interest,
Someone I know, knows someone who lived in the area from where Madelaine disappeared. He told me right at the beginning of this case that this person told him that the children were left every night while the parents went out and that they went to the police and offered a statement, hearing them crying out for their parents, and all the furore when Kate returned to the apartment, and was ignored at the time. A statement has recently been taken since the British police got involved and this is now common knowledge in the media.
My feeling is if the parents went to all the trouble of having IVF treatment for longed-for children, and they are repeatedly described as good parents by their friends and family, why would they leave them alone? I am a parent and in no way perfect, but to leave these three young babies alone is odd to say the least, and NOT normal practice in Europe. 3 young children are hard work and maybe they just thought that this was time for relaxation and the kids would be safe, but babies wake up in the night and to not be comforted is a horrible thought, (even if it’s for half an hour between checks, which is a long time for a small child.)
I hope that they are innocent and just guilty of being too trusting, but I cannot get my head around this disparity.

i believe the parents have killed the child. even if they havent, its their fault for leaving the child unattended. totally unresponsible. i hope i never need their help concerning my health.

Comment by Michael

Lisa - I am not picking on you. 100 yards is 100 yards in any direction. Horizontally it is the length of a football field; vertically it is equivalent to a 30 story building. It is a sizable distance, when kids are a consideration. Yes, I have put my kids to bed and then gone downstairs to read or watch television. I even relaxed on the deck at the end of a long day while the kids slept. But, I was within ear-shot and could get to them quickly. That may be a cultural thing and it may be an over-protective parent thing. I don’t know.

Leaving the children alone, does not make the McCann’s killers. We need to get past that and establish a hard timeline of events. Timelines quickly tell us what is possible and impossible.

Okay! Put yourself in the moment and explain how it went down!

A gray cloud moves across the restaurant and hovers close. A cough and a glance between kindred spirits hold close, then a nod as one quietly leaves.

Hypothesis? Theory? My assumptions differ greatly from what I have read.

These parents are being rail-roaded!

Comment by Rob

Shaping up like another Aruba. Remember the two security guards…? In this case, they may be called, “the parents”. I understand police are pressuring the parents, offering them two years in a plea deal. That could be a bluff, and, an attempt to put a ribbon around it and make it all go away. This one needs a little more time.

Just from an investigative angle, has the timeline been documented when Madeline was last seen by someone other than her parents? What did the family do during the day prior to her going missing and has that timeline been verified? Have all the employees of both the apartment complex and the restaurant (and surrounding businesses) as well as gardeners, tour guides and other personel been questioned and cleared? I am very interested in timelines for hours worked by all these people, breaks they took, if anyone left early, etc. There are many other avenues that could be much more questionable and deserving of investigation than focusing on the parents. The police need to stop trying to cover their incompetence and looking to someone else to blame.

In answering a previous question, “Yes,” three almost four-year-olds do make statements such as “It was my best day ever! I’ve had long conversations with children that age and am constantly amazed at their grasp of the world around them and their ability to inteligently talk what they see and how they feel about it. Bright children do that! I know many are talking about how the British agencies have aided. Might I point out that they weren’t there in the beginning of the investigation and once called, had to take samples collected by the Portugese and read transcripts of conversations held during the Portugese investigation. I smell a rat with the current direction of the case and am intrigued by Lisa’s idea that it has something to do with the approval of new hotel/resorts coming to the area. Very astute observation!

So all this upheaval could be a cover for incompetence, a greedy desire to secure both new business for the area, a desire to have the area considered “safe” for tourists and a need for the McCann’s to “disappear” and quit causing problems…………. Convenient for Portugal to take care of all these things at once by turning the question of guilt onto the parents. Shame on them!! cer

Cindy, my point was that I have left my children sleeping and was 100 yards, (now they are saying 50 yds. away). I was in the house, perhaps upstairs from the sleeping kids, or out in the large yard I used to have to pick flowers. Many people have parties with loud music, or fall asleep in a room other then one right near their children. Michael, yards can be horizontal, vertical, winding stairs, property, stones that lead to a veranda, or whatever. It just amazes me how many people have never left their kids by going to another location within the home, or in the yard. It seems to me that even if you were sleeping in a crib with them, they could still be taken…granted you would have been knocked out…but it still happens.

Greta: I can’t wait for your show tonight…the thoughts on this blog are so varied, they sure make you think from all angles.

Comment by Tony Clemente

Greta,

Here’s my reason for writing today: We have followed the Maddie McCann story from the beginning and with today’s development of the Portuguese accusing the parents, I have finally reached my limit of endurance with the stupidity over there. Am I the only one who realizes that a car the parents rented 25 days after the disappearance of little Maddie could not have her blood in it. Any dummy who ever studied biology or saw any CSI program knows that 25 days after the death of that child there could be no blood to be deposited in that car as it would have been long dried and the body in such a state of decomposition that blood could not be liquid. Please ask Dr. Baden about this as I would like to know if he has the same thoughts as my family and myself have about this.

We are faithful watchers of your program daily, sometimes watch it twice and sometimes tape it to see again. Love your new website too.
Thanks for listening and for the wonderful job you do on your show. Keep up the good work

As to the comments that a Mother couldn’t watch as she killed her child. I dunno, Andrea Yates didn’t seem to mind watching 5 children drown and even chasing the oldest one. Susan Smith didn’t mind watching her kids sink to the bottom of a lake.

As to how to dispose of the body. They were right near the ocean. The ocean is the perfect place to dispose of a body and the reason why Natalie Holloway will never be found. Don’t mean to be so graphic, but bodies are perfect shark bait.

I THINK A GOOD QUESTION TO LOOK INTO IN THE MCCANN CASE WOULD BE WHO RENTED THAT CAR BEFORE THE MCCANN’S DID?????????

WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE BEFORE THE MCCANN’S MIGHT OF HAD MADDY IN THAT CAR ???????????????????????/

GOD BLESS THEM ALL

Comment by Kathy V

I’ve read that the police think that Madeleine died from an accidental overdose of a sedative given to her by her mother. If this is so, what would that have to do with blood found on the wall? Also, they are saying that blood was found in the car rented 25 days after the disappearance. This doesn’t make much sense to me. Are they implying that Madeleine was moved somewhere at this point? The police better have some good forensics as things look like they are getting rather hysterical at the moment.

Comment by Bonnie

I’m embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t heard of Maddie’s case until I read this blog. Where have I been? That said, I do not believe the parents are involved in her disappearance. This seems like a desperate attempt by the police to advance their case by blaming the mother. How convenient. Losing a child is any parent’s worst nightmare, and being falsely accused would only rub salt in the wound. I hope the parents can withstand the pressure and that the case is resolved soon.

Comment by Terry

Have you seen the photos of the location, where the restaurant was versus the room? The room is not even in eyesight, and it’s over a large wall to the pool area.

The open patio doors look out directly to the street.

At first I thought that the McCann’s had left the kids in eyesight, but that’s not the case.

Also, what is the timeline of the dinner? A friend who arrived late saw a man carrying a little girl away from the area of the room at 9:30.

Did Gerry McCann get up to leave at that time? A bathroom break? Or some other pretense?

Comment by Kelly

1.Who is the world would leave thier 3 children age three and under alone!
2. They say they had dinner and was in view of the apartment. Have you seen the actual photos how far away they REALLY were? Did you know they left the doors unlocked and one side of the apartment was on the street, the other side was near a parking lot. They were practically ASKING for something to happen!
3. They were warned that there had been burgleries and to use the sitting service and they STIll did NOT!
4. Neighbors complained to the resort that there was crying for hours while the parents partied with friends!
5. One night they even drove 10-15 minutes away by Portugal reports to have dinner and drinks.
6. Cadavor dogs detected dealth on Kates clothes, on the toy and her Bible.
7. If there was an “abductor” why in the world would they have reason to hide the body and why would the smell of death be on Kate Mccann’s clothes!
There’s so much more!

I have no doubt these so called parents are guilty. If nothing else, they should have been arrested along time ago for neglect. It’s outrageous!

Micheal:
You are correct. 100 yards is the length of a football field. It’s not like a few doors down. I never left my kids alone at any time. There’s too much danger out there, and the McCann’s are guility of stupidity, but I don’t think they killed her. I think she was kidnapped. The blood on her stuffed toy could have been from a scrape (knee, finger) Maddy had from awhile back. It will get interesting, but in the end I don’t think they will be found guilty…IMO

Comment by Lisa N - Tx

Micheal and Dr. Cove are both spot on. No way could they hide a body in full rigormortis and maybe the police are in it up to their ears, just like the disappearance of Joana Cipriano that they were charged for this past weekend, why didn’t those charges make the news? How is it that they have any credibility after that case. The Portugal police could have abducted her and put her in the child sex slave trade. Maybe someone should check their bank accounts for large amounts of deposits around the time she disappeared.

Look at Van Atter in the Simpson murder trial, he left so much evidence that he should not have, as he had specific notes from a junior detective on that case to get certain items. Just like the Bronco, the Junior detective in that case (Fuhrman) filled out paperwork to have that Bronco impounded as evidence and Van Atter canceled the the request. He didn’t get the black sweats in the wash machine or the second pair of XL Aris Isotoner gloves, or the empty Swiss Army knife box on the tub and look what shoddy police work did for that case. I was also told by this Defense investigator frind of mine that Van Atter purposely re-directed the Prosecution away from an accomplice.

Same thing here on McCanns or how do we know the police were not involved in it or botched the case up on purpose like Van Atter did in the OJ Simpson murder case. Look at the Martha Moxley case, the police botched it up on purpose knowing that the only golf club found in Martha’s head belonged to the Skakel’s but kept it hidden for over 20 years to protect them and yes, it was the Barney Five’s of Greenwich. If police corruption is here in the U.S., you know it is in Portugal.

I truly feel that the case against the McCanns will unravel because of public outcry and the previous Cipriano missing girl case, blame the mum and re-direct the criticism. I’m beginning to think that the Portugal police have their hands and feet in this case and it is not to solve the case.

Comment by Elizabeth

We need to remember that this is a foreign country, where investigations are handled differently than here. The mother was named an official suspect so they could further question her. They have not charged her with anything.

This whole investigation has made me frustrated, and I’m not even personal friends with the McCanns. From the secrecy of information to the length of time it took forensics–with everyday going by; I can’t help but think if she *is* alive, what must she be going through.

Unlike the Susan Smith case (who confessed 9 days later), I can’t see the McCann’s waging such an extensive campaign, for such a long time–to cover up a crime. None of it adds up.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of days/weeks–I still pray for Madeleine everyday, and hope for her safe return home.

Comment by Michael

To have such a secretive legal system they sure don’t have a problem spreading rumors. This whole thing stinks to high heaven!

Comment by Shell S

What was the parents’ demeanor throughout dinner? If Mrs. McCann continually went in and out of the room, maybe Maddy heard her leaving and went to look for her? If she was abducted during dinner, someone would have seen something. I suppose anything is possible, but the parents’ behavior is bizarre to say the least.

GRETA - You sure are being quiet on all of this. What do you think?

Comment by Cindy L

Lisa you made a very good point, even though I feel in my heart and soul that these parents are innocent, they were only about 100yards away from her children. Plus if memory serves they went about every 30minutes to check on them. Yes they probably should have gotten a baby sitter but who’s to say something could have still gone terribly wrong. I’m sure these poor parents if they could turn back the clock would not leave them again. God Bless them and poor Maddy.

I agree with the comment about the rental car history. I would like to know who had the car on the night Maddy disappeared, as well as everyone who rented it since then. I would hope that all those people were checked out and cleared. If not, then those cops are just fools.

100 yards is the length of a football field, so you must have one BIG house!

I can not recall a single time I left my kids unattended for any length of time or distance. In fact, even when we would arrange babysitters we would constantly be calling to check on them. However, that issue has muddied this whole case and some just can’t get past that moment of stupidity. Unfortunately, that attitude shifts focus away from a proper investigation.

Well on the big story Kimberly G. was a guest on Johns show and basically said the samething I wrote in only she was much more professional ofcourse than I have been, but I still stand by them I honestly believe they are innocent. I hope they get a good attorney because portugal is going to take them down. Cindy

Now there is some talk about Kate giving Maddy some cold medicine that night. This one is going to get very ugly before it is all said and done.

I am in awe that so many people continue to blame the parents for leaving their children and going 100 yards away for dinner. If there is no-one on this blog who has not left their sleeping child in his/her home for 1/2 hour while walking 100 yards away then I guess I am as guilty as the MaCanns. In my life I have left my children sleeping while going upstairs to vacuum; I have left to get mail outside; I have gone into the yard to pick flowers.

I THINK EVERYONE ON THIS BLOG SHOULD READ THE ENTRY BY DR. NORMAN COVE AT 2:14pm.

Greta: Can’t wait to listen to your show tonight on the Madeline MCCann story!……I heard this on CNN this morning as I was in the waiting room to have a minor medical procedure. I immediately thought of the Ramsay case …..and then after reading the comments on your blog I can see partial scenarios that might have happened. I will be amazed if it is mom or dad (with them traveling the world …having an audience with the Pope) and knowing they did it. Could you really keep up that kind of a pretense?

The Portugal Police probably think Beth Twitty is responsible for her daughter’s disappearance.

I heard it too Michael. I really truly believe it has to do with the multi-million dollar resort hotels/condos that was just announced on August 14th and the powers that be don’t want another bust like Aruba. I wouldn’t go to Aruba if you put Brad Pitt there naked. Not a safe place in my opinion and history has shown this to be the case.

The police are doing to the McCanns what the former Boulder Detective Steve Thomas did to the Ramsey’s, blame the parents if I can’t solve it, that way I ‘m off the hook and they will always have suspicion hanging over their heads. He called that one right. Now the Portugal police are doing the same thing.

The reason I think the father was so calm when he supposedly came back to the table to say there’s a problem is because he is a trained doctor, they must keep their wits about them, like detectives. I know several retired LAPD detectives and I can tell you that they definitely know how to turn off emotion, like the drop of a hat and think nothing of it. Well so do doctors and I also think he may have been on shock or denial. If that was planned, then why didn’t he come back hysterical then, like Robert Blake did with Bonnie Lee Blakely.

This police plea deal is a show, a diversion to redirect the public outcry to the McCanns and take the heat off of them and make it look like they are the good guys and they solve cases. The get off the public spotlight, don’t have to solve the crime, don’t have to spend anymore money to investigate it and the multi-million dollar global hotels investment is saved and everyone walks away happy.

How do we know that the blood on the stuff animal isn’t from Madeleine teething or bloody nose or hand cut? These Portugese Barney Five’s are a bunch of lazy inarticulate mud-bloods trying to find an excuse for their lack of skills.

The Algarve welcomes news of global investment for 10 new hotels
14 August 2007

The Portuguese Algarve is currently celebrating the news of a global investment of 1.5 Billion Euros as 10 new hotels are planned to be built. Eight of the ten hotels will be premier 5 star hotels with the first scheduled to be open as soon as 2009. Portugal Prime Minister Jose Socrates anticipated that some 6,000 new jobs would be created and as a result of this, accommodation on the Algarve would grow by some 5,400 beds.

Oh my…I almost forgot to thank Caroline for her kind comments. Did you look at my OJ Simpson blog comments? I am friends with a defense investigator on that case and a detective too. We have been discussing an accomplice and the defense investigator knows who it is and claims LAPD does too. If LAPD will cover up a crime, Portuguese police will too. The defense investigator is going to go public with his story after the (If) I Did It book comes out, he is no longer legally bound by OJ to keep his mouth shut. I would venture to say that a book will be written on the McCanns from both sides of the table.

Why do people have the need to equate the search for a missing child to gaining 15 minutes of fame? This is not the first missing person’s case where I have heard that expression directed toward family members of the missing person.

Does anyone seriously think any parent would enjoy this type of fame? Scrutiny? Defamation?

Greta - Looks like you have a hot topic going with this case!

People get very passionate about such cases. They also become much divided in their line of thinking. A good timeline detailing those first few days would be revealing. Especially between the time Madeline was last seen by others and when the police were first alerted.

Greta:

Love your show watch it everyday. Missing Maddy, I always felt something was wrong with the parents story. How on earth can you leave children alone in a hotel room in a foreign country unattended. They should be charged with child endangerment. I never let my daughter or for that matter my grandson out of my sight. There is just to many weird o’s in this world nowadays. I remember when I was young it was nothing for us to stay at home alone but back in the 50’s and 60’s the world was totally different. Maddys family is not going to be in the spotlight for all there 15 minute of fame is now tarnished.

Well all these comments sure make you think about things from all angles for sure. I just have to go back to how this happened in the first place. I can’t imagine parents in this day and age, especially in a foreign country, leaving their children alone. They were young children. Not old enough to even know to cry for help. I don’t know what happened but if they are telling the truth and they left them alone to go to dinner they are at fault. People make dumb mistakes and this was one. A terrible price to pay for being stupid however, if that is all they are guilty of. I can’t imagine losing my child and then being accused of killing her. The only thing we know for sure is that she is missing and nobody has seen her since the parents left for dinner. So something has happened to poor little Madeline. And it doesn’t appear she will be coming home again.

I had a feeling that the parents had something to do with their daughter one I saw where they left a three year old and baby twins in a room by themselves while they went out for dinner. I just did not feel right.
I have a feeling that the child somehow irked the mother by not going to bed or something like that nd she got angry and hit her harder than she ment to. The blow could have severly damaged the child and the paents got frightened.
Both being doctors they realized that the child was injured beyound recovery and had to get rid of her. The best excuse is to blame soneone else in taking her.
I hope I am wrong but I believe they are involved.

The rental car history is key and a missing link to the many “facts” presented. What if said car was rented previously by the McCann’s friends that they were on holiday with? The McCann’s would possibly have had access to said car at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. The McCann’s could have rented that very same car 25 days later. I assume a small resort town would not have that many rental cars.
On an entirely different note, i remember right after Madeleine’s disappearance, the mother saying that Madeleine had told her that day, that “today was the best day of my life”. (or something very close to that effect). I thought then, what a strange statement coming from a 3-4 year old child. Do children that young speak/think that way? and why of all days in her 3-4 years, would she make that comment on that day? Just too odd to me.
i still pray that Madeleine is found alive , but the evidence is looking bleaker than ever.

From the beginning, the Portuguese police have proven themselves to be bunglers when it comes to containing a scene to protect potential DNA evidence, to expeditiously closing borders, viewing CCTV footage of possible routes out of the country, etc etc etc ad nauseum. This new wrinkle is nothing short of desperation. I have found some of the McCanns’ behavior strange - not to have hired a private investigator with their funds (to which I donated along with tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of other people) was a little troubling. I know that is one of the first things I would have done with that money. However, it would take a true monster and sociopath to be able to hide and dispose of the body of your precious child and then maintain a very visible, intentionally public profile and campaign. I do not think it is in any way possible that Kate McCann accidently or otherwise harmed her child. I am however suspicious of some of the alleged remarks and behaviors of the friends they vacationed with. I’m still not sure about Mr. Murat. However, I am very sure that even if Mrs. McCann were the most horrific person mother alive, logistically I don’t see how it would be possible. If she did do it, she would have required some help in the aftermath. I don’t see it. As a mother of four, I have agonized and cried over this case from the beginning. Looking at it in a more levelheaded fashion, I cannot allow for any timeline based upon what has been reported that would have afforded Ms. McCann the opportunity to pull off such heinous actions. I hope that this case will be resolved and that Madeleine will be found safe and brought home. Thank you, Greta, for allowing me to comment.

Greta - I have read through all of these comments and find myself utterly confused as to what to think at this point. I have not previously thought the parents guilty of anything other than a grossly poor parenting decision. I am not yet ready to jump on the “parents did it” bandwagon without knowing just what REAL evidence there is of their guilt in this, yet the circumstances surrounding this disappearance do seem odd. I, too, would like to know what a body language expert might say of the parents’ demeanor. They have exerted quite a bit of pressure on Portuguese police - I hope this isn’t the police’s way of shifting attention away from themselves.

I don’t believe these parents are involved in Madeline’s disappearance. They have suffered and are suffering tremendously, and now to be named as suspects? Too much police bungling in this case. Remember the Ramseys? The whole world had them convicted then we find out YEARS later about the non-realitive male DNA found on the girl’s body that the police failed to mention. This current case with Madeline also reeks of similar police botching (similar to the Natalee Holloway case too). So why not name the parents - convenient, right? I don’t agree with them leaving the kids alone mind you - and if this blood-in-the-rental car evidence really is true, then I will eat my words. Still, I can’t imagine these parents being able to move a body with the whole world watching them.

Comment by Sandra

After reading all the press on this, I am wondering if the girl was “accidently” killed before dinner. And the parents used the excuse of leaving the kids sleeping in the hotel as a way to get rid of the evidence while they were supposedly checking on the children. Their behavior has been odd from the very beginning. If my child was missing I would spend
